Now, I haven’t been too excited about the complete fight cards from the UFC lately and this is another example of a lack luster card. There are some interesting matchups but nothing that would make me wish I was headed across the Pacific to Australia to witness this in person. Here is the full card:
Antonio Nogueira “Nog” vs Cain Velasquez
Wanderlei Silva vs Michael Bisping
Joe Stevenson vs George Sotiropoulos
Keith Jardine (yeah the dude from ‘Gamer’) vs Ryan Bader
Mirko Cro Cop Filopovich vs Ben Rothwell
Elvis Sinosic vs Chris Haseman
Stephan Bonnar vs Krzysztof Soszynski
Chris lytle vs Brian Foster
CB Dollaway vs Goran Reljic
James Te Huna vs Igor Pokrajac
** As I said, a couple of interesting match ups but nothing I’m going to lose it over **
Here is the highlight video. Cael Sonnen didn’t disappoint. The only other man that is as dominant as him in the cage is Mr. Anderson Silva. Hopefully that is the next stop for Cael.
I’m not debating which I’d rather attend, I’m simply implying that two of the three main bouts on this card are more of an old reunion than an interesting MMA matchup. These fights could set the UFC back a bit in terms of popularity and excitment. I’ll bet this UFC 109 ticket doesn’t sell many PPV’s. Anyone on here buying it?
Randy Couture vs Marc Coleman – this fight never should have been signed, let alone made the headliner for the largest MMA show in the world. There are far more intriguing matchups that are taking a back seat to this nostalgic card. In this fight I see Randy destroying Marc. Randy’s wrestling has always been better, Randy’s dirty boxing and clinch work have always been better and his submission game is head and shoulders better than Marcs ever was. Randy wins this fight way before Coleman has a chance to embarrass middle aged men everywhere.
Matt Scera vs Frank Trigg – this fight is a third shot for both of these fighters in the most competitive weight class in the UFC! Why is the UFC bringing back these two fighters who have proved their good, just not good enough to dominate the division? Frank Trigg has always been good, but never entertaining and never good enough to win a big fight. Matt Scera has the bjj and the hands to be good, he’s just a little guy in the wrong weight class. Matt Scera will win this fight on the ground choking Trigg till he tapps out.
Nate Marquardt and Cael Sonnen are the reason I’ll be viewing this show from home. Both of these fighters are legitimate contenders. Anderson Silva is ready to be done and I see one of these two taking over for him. In this fight I see Marquardt edging out a decision in what I hope is the most exciting back and forth fight ever.
Following Strikeforces FUCKIN AMAZING free televised card this last weekend the UFC is producing UFC 105 featuring Brandon Vera vs Randy Couture. This night may not be as big as Fedor, but UFC loyalists can appreciate the depth of this card.
Vera vs Couture
Kang vs Bisping
Hardy vs Swick
Recommended Food for UFC105
Pizza – deep dish meat lovers from Pizza Hut
Hot wings – just get the cheap crap from Costco and throw some sauces on that stuff.
Cool Ranch Doritos
Funyuns
Sharp cheddar cheese ball from walmart with wheat thins (plain flavorings only, none of that gay sun dried tomato shit)
Mountain dew inbetween beer of choice.
Most of this should be left over from your Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 party your throwing saturday night.
Love him or hate him, the guy has proved what he is made of every time he gets in the cage/ring. Brett Rogers looked better than expected and had Fedor looking vulnerable in the first round.
So we’re pretty excited about Brandon Vera making his Main Event Debut. Randy Couture has proved time and time again that age is no factor in his performances. Brandon Vera had better bring it…. which we’re confident he will.
Here is the full UFC 105 card:
Main Event: Randy Couture vs Brandon Vera
Rest of card:
Andre Winner vs Rolando Delgado (Winner should take this easily)
Paul Kelly vs Dennis Siver
Matt Riddle vs Nick Osipzcak
Terry Etim vs Shannon Gugerty
Paul Taylor vs John Hathaway
Ross Pearson vs Aaron Riley
James Wilks vs Matt Brown
Michael Bisping vs Dennis Kang (should be explosive!)
Mike Swick vs Dan Hardy (someone’s going to sleep)
The rest of the card should sell this fight night. SpikeTV will be broadcasting at 8pm 11/14/2009.
Here is the promo video for Throwdown V. Show is on November 20 2009 in Orem Utah. Most of these guys are young in their career and are headed back to the big leagues and should be in the UFC or Strikeforce soon enough.
Check back for the full card closer to the 20th. Want tickets? Check back soon for more information.
When: The undercard starts at 7 PM ET Saturday, Spike TV will show an hour of fights beginning at 9 and the pay-per-view begins at 10.
Where: Staples Center, Los Angeles
Predictions:
Main Event Machida vs Shogun
Both fighters are going to start slow and conservative. Action should pick up pace towards the end of the round, but don’t look for a clear round 1 winner. This round will probably go both ways on judges score cards.
Round two will start much the same but the action will pick up a minute or two into the round. After several good exchanges from both fighters Shogun will rock Machida and eventually finish him.
Shogun wins via TKO
Rest of the Card:
Cain Velasquez vs. Ben Rothwell
Cain and Ben might have the opprotunity for fight of the night or most boring fight of the night. Cain is feeling the pressure to finish fights from both fans and UFC execs. I’m looking for Cain to finish this fight in round one with a surprising KO.
Cain Valasquez wins via KO in the First (or a snoozefest descision)
Read a prediction from MMA Fan House… what do you think?
“Joe Stevenson vs. Spencer Fisher
Stevenson came back from a two-fight losing streak with a big win over Nate Diaz at the UFC Fight Night in June, but I like Fisher, who’s on a three-fight winning streak, to keep this fight standing and beat Stevenson on his feet. Pick: Fisher.”
